Family-owned and operated since 2009, Honl Tree Care serves the Portland metro area with a spirit of integrity and excellence.
Meet our team
Chad Honl, Owner, ISA-Certified Arborist (PN-5537A)
Chad has been planting and caring for trees in Portland since childhood. As manager of Friends of Trees’ Neighborhood Trees program from 2000 to 2005, he helped Portland communities plant and care for more than 8,000 street trees. He is a hardworking, friendly, and honest arborist, who focuses on safety, aesthetics, and customer satisfaction. He practices the highest standards of tree care.
Chad played an integral role in creating an edible Portland by organizing a fruit tree giveaway in 1997, which has since distributed more than 20,000 trees. (He received NPR’s E-town award for the effort.) He has helped to create naturescapes and gardens in four Portland public schools. In 2009, he was the recipient of the City of Portland Bill Naito Award for sustained dedication to Portland’s urban forest and improving Portland’s environment in a lasting way. Chad has taught arboriculture and native plant classes at Portland Community College.
Chad’s extensive knowledge of trees will help deepen your relationship with trees as he helps you care for and select the right tree for your yard.
Isabel Toledo-Silvestre, Co-Owner
Isabel is Chad Honl’s wife and co-owner of Honl Tree Care. Originally from Spain, she moved to the United States to learn English for three months, and twenty-six years later is still here! She has been living in Portland for twenty-one and it took her seven years to get used to the rain and the heavy tree canopy in Portland; now she feels like she can’t breathe if she doesn’t have trees around her. Before joining Honl Tree Care, Isabel was a nurse for over 14 years. However, as she was finishing her Doctorate in Nursing in 2016, she realized how much she missed her children and wanted to spend more time with them. So she finished her doctorate, quit nursing, and joined the lovely Honl Tree Care office staff. Isabel is in charge of billing, payroll, and other various tasks. She now enjoys working with her husband every day, which has allowed her to admire his business talent and incredible multitasking talent. She is extremely thankful to her husband for the opportunity to be able to spend more time with their kids. Call the office and let her know if you have any questions; she will be happy to help! Gracias!
